Righteous conduct, dharma, discipline, meditative awareness, happiness, contentment, moral integrity, truthfulness, universality, spirituality, religiosity and liberation are the spontaneous incidental results of this True Love of God attained by His Grace.

O my mind, dwell on the Feet of the Lord.

ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਸ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਪੰਖ ਲਗਾਇ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
My mind is enticed by thirst for the Blessed Vision of the Lord; I would take wings and fly out to meet Him. ||1||Pause||

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Searching and seeking, I have found the Path, and now I serve the Holy.

ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
O my Lord and Master, please be kind to me, that I may drink in Your most sublime essence. ||1||

ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਏ ਜਲਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
Begging and pleading, I have come to Your Sanctuary; I am on fire - please shower me with Your Mercy!

ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੧੭॥

Without the water, my thirst is not quenched, and my breath of life is ended and gone.

ਤੂ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਨੇਧਾਨੁ ॥
You are the Giver of peace, O Infinite Lord God; You are the Giver of the treasure of virtue.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਅੰਤਿ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh is forgiven; in the end, the Lord God shall be your only friend. ||2||

Desi month - Sawan (ਸਾਵਣ) is the fifth month of the year according to the desi calendar and the Nanakshahi calendar. Sawan is considered as the month of rain and the sky is overcast with dark clouds throughout this month.

ਮੋਰੀ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਲਾਇਆ ਭੈਣੇ ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
The peacocks are singing so sweetly, O sister; the rainy season of Saawan has come.

ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਜਲਹਰੁ ਬਰਸਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
The month of Saawan has come, O my companions; the clouds have burst forth with rain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, the blessed soul-brides sleep in peace; they are in love with their Husband Lord. ||2||

Without the Name, there are no companions or friends. Liberation comes only by meditating on the Naam. ||4||

Grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, the desire of my mind, and my worries shall be over.

ਹੋਇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਚਰਨਾ ਧੂਰੀਐ ॥
By body is sanctified, by the dust of Your feet.

ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਮੋਕਉ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I cannot endure one day, even one instant without Him. My mind's desire for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is so great. Is there any Saint who can lead me to meet my Beloved? ||1||Pause||

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਹਰ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਹ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
ਰੈਣਿ ਭਈ ਤਬ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੨॥
The four watches of the day are like the four ages. And when night comes, I think that it shall never end. ||2||

ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਿਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੋੜੀ ॥
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੀ ॥੩॥
The five demons have joined together, to separate me from my Husband Lord. Wandering and rambling, I cry out and wring my hands. ||3||

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੫॥
The Lord has revealed the Blessed Vision of His Darshan to servant Nanak; Realizing his own self, he has obtained supreme peace. ||4||15||

ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਲੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਗਰਬਲੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
He may wear ear-rings and fine clothes, And have a comfortable bed, and his mind may be so proud. ||1||Pause||

ਤਲੈ ਕੁੰਚਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਨਿਕ ਛਤਰੀਆ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਡਲੀਆ ॥੨॥
He may have elephants to ride, and golden umbrellas over his head; But without devotional worship to the Lord, he is buried beneath the dirt. ||2||

ਰੂਪ ਸੁੰਦਰੀਆ ਅਨਿਕ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿਕਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
He may enjoy many women, of exquisite beauty; But without the sublime essence of the Lord, all tastes are tasteless. ||3||

ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੀਆ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖਲੀਆ ॥
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਅਲੀਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੫॥
Deluded by Maya, the mortal is led into sin and corruption. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, the All-powerful, Compassionate Lord. ||4||4||55||

As long as the destiny written upon my forehead was not activated, I wandered around lost, running in all directions.

I was drowning in the horrible world-ocean of this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, and my remorse would never have ended.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਚੌਥੇ ਗੁਰੂ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਤੀਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਬੀਬੀ ਭਾਨੀ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖੋਂ ਗੋਇੰਦਵਾਲ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਿਖੇ 1563 ਈਸਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਭਰਾ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ। ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਚੰਦ ਸੀ 'ਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਸਨ।
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਗੱਦੀ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਕੰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮਸਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ) ਵਿਖੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ 1601 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 1604 ਤੱਕ ਆਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ 36 ਮਹਾਂਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੀ। 30 ਅਗਸਤ 1604 ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਆਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੀ ਥਾਪਿਆ।
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਕਈ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਆਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਕੁਲ 2312 ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਬਾਰਹਮਾਂਹ, ਬਾਵਨ ਅੱਖਰੀ, ਵਾਰਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹਨ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 30 ਰਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ।
